about me

?

I use wood from native British & other temperate zone tree species - I like knowing something of the trees' characters and context - also they tend to be sustainably-cropped by default. However it's likely that there'll always be world trade in timber, since big forest areas can't always be bang next to where the wood gets used, and this is where certification schemes could be useful.

The furniture around me as I grew up spanned the vernacular, the Victorian & Edwardian eras, pre & post world war 2 stuff including 'utility' furniture, a bit of 1955 'space-age' whimsy (ovals & formica), and a hint of Danish Modern - what a cocktail! My introduction to modernism wasn't via the Bauhaus, but via Habitat. Eventually I would progress to my own synthesis. But first, I had to learn how to work wood.
